Twins host Field Day for homeless kids
Minnesota Twins players ascended from the dugout Friday afternoon and strode toward eager children awaiting the arrival of their idols. Torii Hunter, Brian Dozier and manager Paul Molitor were just a few of the familiar Twins faces taking part in Hope Week, a program hosted by the team that provides homeless children the opportunity to meet and engage with players.
Frisbee, kickball, and Wiffle ball were some of the activities, and laughter and cooperation were some of the brightest highlights under Friday’s blue sky. Children were constantly running around, searching out all of the Twins players to try and get every signature they could.
Players and coaches both expressed how great it was to have the kids there interacting with each other. The players conveyed how wonderful it is to reach out to the community, hold events, and give back.
One boy standing on first base of the kickball field located in right field said, “This is the best day of my life.” Seeing the kids have fun and smile was what the players said was their favorite part of the day.
Torii Hunter compared the feeling of seeing everyone together and having a great time to hitting a home run out of the park -- there’s just nothing like it.
To end the day, players, coaches, and staff gathered together with all of the children to take a group photo.
