MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - The Minnesota Twins are mourning the loss of minor league pitcher Yorman Landa, 22, who died in a car accident in Venezuela early Saturday morning.
"The Minnesota Twins are deeply saddened by the heartbreaking loss of Yorman Landa early this morning in Venezuela," Twins chief baseball officer Derek Falvey said in a statement. "On behalf of the entire baseball community, we send our sincerest condolences to the Landa family as well as Yorman's many friends, coaches and teammates."
Landa, a native of Santa Teresa del Tuy, Venezuela, signed with the Twins when he was 16. He was taken off the 40-man roster on Dec. 2, but had recently agreed to re-sign a minor league deal with the team.
