Zach LaVine donates $10,000 for kitchen at deaf school in St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - On the court, you never quite know what Timberwolves guard and two-time NBA Slam Dunk champion Zach LaVine is going to cook up. He can always dish out a dunk, but on Monday, morning, he served up something a little more special in St. Paul.

LaVine unveiled a brand-new kitchen space at the Metro Deaf School, a place he has frequented all year to hang out with students. On Monday, he donated $10,000 to help create a functioning kitchen. Before, the school had to cater meals.

What makes these trips to the school so unique is that a pro athlete speaks these students' language.  In high school, LaVine and a friend decided to study American Sign Language instead of Spanish and communicated using it on the basketball court. Students say his ASL could use a little work, but they will happily trade their tips for some of his basketball savvy, which he happily shares.
