The Minneapolis City Council has approved plans for the $128.9 million Target Center renovation. The council voted 10-3 Friday morning to approve the cost, updated designs and construction schedule.

The city will spend about $74 million on the renovation, while the Timberwolves and Lynx will kick-in nearly $50 million. Construction is expected to begin May 6 and be completed in 2017.

Renovation plans call for a new state-of-the-art scoreboard, additional clubs and spectator gathering spaces, and improved food and beverage options.
