Timberwolves assign Tyus Jones to NBA Development League

- Minnesota Timberwolves announced late Saturday night, that they will send rookie guard, Tyus Jones, to the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League.

The NBA Development League enables 11 independent NBA teams, including the Timberwolves, to assign players to the system for rehabilitation from injury or further development.

Wolves General Manager, Milt Newton, says, “Going to Idaho will allow Tyus to get some game experience at the professional level.”

“With our depth at point guard, we haven’t been able to get Tyus the playing time that he needs. Tyus has a great future in the NBA and this assignment will help the development of his game.”

The Apple Valley native was selected with the 24th overall pick, and acquired by the Wolves in a draft-day trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. He helped lead the Duke Blue Devils to a National Championship, where he was named the Most Outstanding Player.

Jones has played two games with the Wolves this season, with a combined total of 14 minutes.
