After 21 seasons in the NBA, 40-year-old Kevin Garnett announced his retirement.

Garnett posted a black and white video on his Instagram, telling his followers that he was "thankful" and to "stay tuned." At the end of the short video, text says "Farewell" and "Thank you for the journey."

Garnett was drafted by the Timberwolves straight out of high school in 1995. He was a key player until he was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007, where he won his first and only NBA championship in the 2007-2008 season. Garnett went on to play for the Brooklyn Nets in July of 2013.

A source tells the Associated Press Garnett and the Timberwolves came to agreement on a buyout and Garnett will be waived by the Wolves and collect his entire $8 million salary for next season.

He returned to Minnesota last February.
