Minnesota Lynx waive Carlie Wagner

- The Minnesota Lynx have waived guard Carlie Wagner, who was drafted by her hometown team after standout career at the University of Minnesota. The team also waived forward Jillian Alleyne. With those moves, the Lynx training camp roster stands at 12 players.

“It’s been really ‘real,'” Wagner told Fox 9 after her first week of Lynx training camp. “I learned quickly that you have to stay focused on the court and not let the excitement get to you.”

Wagner was selected by the Lynx as the 36th overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft. In two preseason appearances for the Lynx, she recorded four points on 2-of-4 shooting in 25 minutes of play.

Alleyne, signed by the Lynx on May 5, had four points and four rebounds in Minnesota’s 87-58 victory vs. the Chicago Sky on May 12.

The Lynx are a veteran, championship team with depth at Wagner’s position, which made it difficult for head coach Cheryl Reeve to find a place for her on the final roster. But Wagner said the experience with the program is worth it.

“I want to be a better basketball player leaving than I was coming in and I think I am getting that here,” Wagner said. “I don’t want to stay the same. I don’t want to be the same player I was in college. I want to be able to get better and evolve.”
