Gophers volleyball No. 1 in nation after 12 straight wins

With six games to go, the No. 1 ranked Minnesota Gophers Volleyball team is on the track to winning their first Big Ten title since their only conference crown in 2002 -- but that's just one goal on this team's agenda.

"We've become so much more than what we were at the beginning of the season. That progression has just been so fun,” junior Hannah Tapp, middle blocker, said.

The Gophers have been killing it on the court, setting a new program record over the weekend, winning their 12th straight Big Ten match.

"The fact that our kids are scratching and scraping and getting it done, it's exciting to see," head coach Hugh McCutcheon said.

It's given the team the ability to be proud and confident each and every game – “We know that we can do it, and we know that we're good enough,” Tapp said.

And sustaining the streak, can also lead to even more for the Gophers.

"Our best volleyball is yet to come,” Hugh said.  “We've been able to win matches without playing our best. So who knows, anything is possible."

Tapp said the team “can definitely give a national championship a run this year, and in years to come.”
