Kevin Dorsey will leave Gophers, seek transfer

Kevin Dorsey will leave the University of Minnesota and transfer to another program, Gophers head basketball coach Richard Pitino confirmed Monday. Dorsey played in 26 games in his one year with the Gophers, average 6.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

“After discussion with Kevin and his family, we all feel that it is best for him to transfer and get closer to home,” Pitino said. “We wish Kevin nothing but the best moving forward, and will assist him in the process in any way that we can.”

Dorsey was one of 3 Gophers players suspended for the final 4 games of the season for a violation of team rules. The team never disclosed the details of their suspension and there was never a criminal investigation, but the discipline was apparently the result of videos Dorsey posted on Instagram and Twitter, showing him having sex with an unidentified woman.

The university confirmed last week that all 3 players would be eligible to return in 2016.
