DeLaSalle High School looking to make history with 5 straight basketball titles

The Minnesota State High School boys' basketball tournament is here and one metro area team is not only chasing a state title, but also a bit of history.

DeLaSalle High School’s has won the championship every year since 2012. No basketball team in Minnesota has won five state titles in a row and this week at the MSHSL tournament, the Islanders are hoping to set a new state record.

"I don't know what it's like to lose in the state tournament,” senior guard Samm Jones says. “It’s like a routine.”

It’s a new team, a new year and another trip to state, but the goal of carrying on the culture of basketball at DeLaSalle remains the same.

“It’s about the legacy of the program,” Coach Dave Thorson said. “It’s a powerful thing."
