Lynx start run toward 5th championship vs Phoenix Mercury

- The leaves are changing color, the air is crisp and the Minnesota Lynx are making another run toward a WNBA championship. It must be fall.

The Lynx finished the 2016 WNBA regular-season with a league-best 28-6. The team will open the WNBA Semifinals at Xcel Energy Center on Wednesday, September 28 at 7 p.m. CT. The Lynx will face the Phoenix Mercury, who defeated the Indiana Fever 89-78 in the first round and went on to beat the New York Liberty 101-94 in the second round.

Minnesota swept its 3-game regular season series with the Mercury. This year’s postseason meeting will be the fifth time the Lynx and Mercury have met in the playoffs, also facing off in the 2015 Western Conference Finals (Minnesota won the series, 2-0), the 2014 Western Conference Finals (Phoenix won the series, 2-1), the 2013 Western Conference Semifinals (Minnesota won the series, 2-0) and the 2011 Western Conference Finals (Minnesota won the series, 2-0).

The Lynx have won 4 WNBA championships over the past 5 seasons.
