Today brought news that would've been hard to believe as recently as 48 hours ago: Kevin Garnett, without question the greatest player in Timberwolves history, is coming back to Minnesota.
As credible rumors about KG's homecoming began to swirl last night, folks took to Twitter to reminisce about their favorite Garnett memories... and, of course, joke about the Minnesota sports community's obsession with "getting the band back together." (Consider 2010 Randy Moss and 2015 Torii Hunter, to take two examples.)
It certainly made for an entertaining morning and early afternoon on Twitter, even if reacquiring a 38-year-old KG in the midst of his 20th NBA season probably won't translate to much on-court success.
Without further ado, here are the most entertaining tweets we saw:10. Who can forget this KG press conference from the team's last playoff run (2004), which was also his MVP season?
9. And if you think 2004 was a long time ago...
My sources say Kevin Garnett is loading up his pump, his oozies, missle launcher...— Brandon Mileski (@BMileskiKFAN) February 19, 2015
I'm pretty sure I like a possible KG trade to MN for all the wrong reasons, but I still like it.— RandBall (@RandBall) February 19, 2015
7. Then again, Minnesota teams and fans are all about reunion tours:
'I'm tired of local teams making pointless reunions with veterans under the guise of leadershi -- DID YOU SAY KEVIN GARNETT?!'— Derek Wetmore (@DerekWetmore) February 19, 2015
First Torii, now KG. Eff it, why stop there. Sign Gaborik & Moss. Make a Saturday morning cartoon. Minnesota ProStars. They can fight crime.— Clarence Swamptown (@CSwamptown) February 19, 2015
6. And on that note:
Maybe the Timberwolves can bring back Jason Kubel and Jason Bartlett too.— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) February 19, 2015
5. Eight years later, it's easy to forget how much the Timberwolves won with KG:
If the Wolves bring back KG, it's a no brainer to see what Marbury and Gugliotta are up to— netw3rk (@netw3rk) February 19, 2015
4. Boring Joe Mauer offered KG a place to stay...
In Kevin Garnett's 12 years in Minnesota? 501 wins and 8 trips to the playoffs.8 years since he left? Not so much. pic.twitter.com/1BGYF4VdcL— Sean Grande (@SeanGrandePBP) February 19, 2015
3 ... though this is probably more realistic:
If KG comes back he can sleep on my couch until he gets settled in.— Boring Joe Mauer (@BoringJoeMauer) February 19, 2015
2. Here's the tweet that officially ended the suspense:
@atrupar Maybe he could move into bro-in-law Jimmy Jam's House that never sold!— Jeff Passolt (@JeffPassoltFOX9) February 19, 2015
1. Finally, how awesome would this be?
