Not everybody was excited to see some chilly temperatures when they woke up Sunday morning, but area skiers and snowboarders may have been.

Luckily for alpine enthusiasts, Wild Mountain had them covered Sunday as they became the first ski area in the Midwest to open for the 2018/2019 season.

Wild Mountain Ski and Snowboard Area, in Taylors Falls, Minnesota, opened one run, its terrain park and two rope tows for the day.

Wild Mountain had its snowmaking equipment working overtime overnight Saturday to prepare the run, which opened to skiers and snowboarders.

According to the ski area, being the first to open for the season is a 40-year tradition.
