Wet April so far…

We have been super spoiled by our wonderfully mild weather over the last several months.  While temperatures this winter were cold, they were still above average with several very warm days thrown in for good measure.  Let’s face it, when you get to 60° in February, then I’d say you’re having a mild winter.  Well, now that we have been mild for so long, it feels like summer will never get here because the “spring-like” weather has been around for months.

Well, I assure you that summer will get here soon enough, but what spring has really done is bring back the moisture.  January through March is typically the driest 3 month period of the year for the state, and it was certainly living up to that title as the metro barely saw over 2 inches of liquid moisture over those 12 weeks.  But once we got to April, it has been a far different story with cloudy and rainy days nearly overshadowing the few sunny and pleasant days we’ve seen so far this month.  The metro has received nearly 3 inches of rain through the first 3 weeks of April, which is above average for the month and surpasses all of the moisture we received in the prior 3 months combined.  Other areas southeast of the metro have seen more than 5 inches of rain so far.  While the weekend looks dry for the metro, next week likely won’t be as more rain will be heading our way and just adding to our already full total.  The good news; with this much water around the spring bloom may just be extra pretty this year…
