At least 50 people are dead and over 200 injured after a gunman opened fire on an outdoor music festival on the Las Vegas Strip, officials said early Monday.
The lone gunman fired what appears to be an automatic weapon from the 32nd floor of a Strip hotel, killing and injuring concert goers at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.
Witnesses described a scene of mass confusion and terror, as thousands of concert goers ran from the festival and into nearby hotels. They describe see muzzle flashes from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.
Witnesses also say they saw victims quickly loaded into dozens of ambulances and rescue units that responded to the scene.
Clark County Sheriff Jospeh Lombardo said that police confronted the suspect on the 32nd floor of the hotel and that suspect is dead. Lombardo said they believe this was a “lone wolf” attack but they were searching for one other person in connection with the shooting. They have since located her.
This is the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history, according to the Associated Press.
