Univ. of Minn. student attacked near light rail station

- A University of Minnesota student was assaulted by a stranger while walking home from a light rail station near the university campus early Monday morning.

According to a neighborhood safety notice sent to all students, the victim was waiting at the Stadium Village light rail train station around 4:00 a.m. when a person she did not know approached her and made small talk. The suspect then followed the victim as she walked home. When she reached the parking lot of an apartment building on the south side of Huron Boulevard between Huron and Erie Street, the suspect attacked her, threw her to the ground and began punching her.

The victim resisted and the suspect fled. The victim was not seriously injured.

The assailant is described as being between five feet 10 inches and six feet tall with a medium build and short black hair.

The University of Minnesota Police Department is investigating the assault. Anyone with information is asked to call U of M police at 612-624-2677.
