Two Great Tastes That Taste Great Together: Candy & Wine

- When the kids head off to bed on Monday night, let’s be honest, you’ll be plumbing their Trick-or-Treat bags looking for a little something to sneak. Your ethics are fine, but the real question is what wine should you be drinking?

Sweet white like Moscato

Sugar bombs! Get it cranked to 11 with candy corn, this white with a slight bubble with help cut the mouth feel. Better yet, Sour Patch Kids and Skittles give this wine a nice bite to play with.

Lighter and dry like Rose

A bit fruity and dry, rose has a nice acidity to help cut through the chewy Starburst, while keeping its sassy bright nature alive. Pick a rose made from pinot noir or Malbec.

Medium red like Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir, lighter but still substantial, was made for Twizzlers. There’s a fruity match but the acidity of the wine will help slice through the chewy nature of licorice. I’m not saying to use it like a straw, but I’m not, not saying it.

Bolder big red like Syrah

Rich and berry forward wines like this go well with Twix for its caramel-cookie-chocolate complexity. Also with Reese’s, there’s a nice play against the nutty saltiness of a classic chocolate peanut butter cup.
