A salmonella outbreak led to the closure of two Burger Kings in Bemidji, according to an official at the Minnesota Department of Health.

So far, there have been 27 confirmed cases. Most were identified in September, but two more cases recently came to light, which prompted MDH’s recommendation for the restaurants to close. Both Burger Kings closed voluntarily.

MDH believes the outbreak is due to employee illness rather than a specific food.

Both restaurants will be cleaned thoroughly and staff will be screened. The earliest the restaurants could re-open is next week.
