Train hauling coal derails near Cloquet

Authorities are investigating a train derailment near Cloquet, Minnesota, according to a spokesperson with BNSF Railway Company.

The incident happened Saturday around 11:30 a.m. when a train hauling coal went off the tracks.

“Forty rail cars derailed. Several cars are on their sides near or partially in the frozen river," read the statement in part.

Crews are working to clear cars and repair the track. They are making a plan to remove the spilled coal and other derailed cars.

No one was injured in the derailment. 

The cause is under investigation.

The tracks are expected to be returned to service later this evening.
