Timeline: Chaotic protest through Uptown, closings

Overnight protests in Charlotte have closed parts of Uptown and businesses.

The protests come after the death of Keith Lamont Scott, who was shot and killed by a police officer on Tuesday.

The EpiCentre and The Mint Museum will be closed Thursday. The employers of Bank Of America, Wells Fargo, United Way of Central Carolinas, Fifth Third Bank and Duke Energy are telling their employees to work from home or alternate locations. Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is operating on a normal schedule.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools released the following statement: "Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will operate on a regular schedule today, Thursday, Sept. 22. We realize it continues to be a very challenging time for our community given last night's events. It's important that our schools remain open and continue to provide stable and safe havens for our children and families during this time."

Wells Fargo released the following statement:"Due to the State of Emergency in Charlotte, Wells Fargo team members are not required to report to work in Uptown today. Team members are being asked to work from home or work from alternate locations if they are able. Team members unable to find alternate arrangements are not required to take PTO today."

Unite Way released the following statement: "United Way employees are being asked to work from home today. Some of our partners reached out and generously offered us space, for which we're very grateful. That's how our city needs to move forward - proactively reaching out and inviting others in.

Our windows are broken, but we are committed to this community's healing. In the face of these painful events, we are more resolved than ever to change Charlotte's direction and provide real opportunity for all."

Timeline:

3-3:30 a.m. National Guard arrived at Charlotte Armory. They are prepared to mainly help with the infrastructure of Charlotte.
2 a.m. majority of protesters began to leave.
11:16 p.m. Governor McCrory declares a State of Emergency and calls in National Guard and State Highway Patrol to assist local law enforcement.
8:40 p.m. One man was shot outside the Omni near the EpiCentre and has since died, according to emergency responders. This was a civilian on civilian shooting, according to city officials. Chief Putney said an allegation was made that a CMPD officer was involved and they're investigating.
8-8:30 p.m. A group of hundreds of protesters marched towards Uptown jumping on vehicles causing destruction at the EpiCentre. Restaurants, shops, convenience stores at EpiCentre broken into and stolen from.
7 p.m. Million Youth March held a protest in Marshall Park.
6 p.m. protesters started marching down to Marshall Park.
4 p.m.on Wednesday demonstrators took to the streets in what started as a peaceful protest.
