The Metro is still officially unfrozen

While much of Minnesota and parts of the metro have seen freezing temperatures already this fall, the official climate site of the metro, MSP Airport, has not.  The coldest mornings have been the 8th & 9th of October so far, with a low of 36°.  Ironically, the 8th of October is the average first fall freeze date for the metro.  But since then, we have stayed above those marks and have only seen 2 other mornings with lows in the 30s.  While our first freeze is coming in behind normal, it is still nowhere close to the record latest days.  There have been 7 years where our first freeze did not come until November, with the most recent in 1958.  In order to break the all-time record set in 1900, we would have to go freeze free for another 2 plus weeks, which would be quite the accomplishment.

That said, if we don’t hit the freeze mark on Friday the 21st, with the way the weekend and next week appear to be shaping up, it could be nearly Halloween before we get another shot at 32° in the metro.  So while a November first freeze is a long shot, it is certainly still possible.
