After nearly getting through the entire month of October, the growing season in the metro has finally come to an end. After more than 12 straight hours of snow falling at MSP Airport, at last the temperature dropped to 32 degrees, recording our first freeze at 11:59pm on October 27th. That date is more than 2 weeks behind the 30-year average, which is October 10th, but well ahead of when we experienced our first freeze last year coming in on November 18th… one of the latest first freezes ever. The current forecast has us frozen just about every night in the near future, but by Wednesday, we should have experienced an overnight temperature in the middle 20s, which isn’t likely if the current pattern holds. This would keep us behind average for overall cooling temperatures through the fall season.
