SUV smashes into Maplewood mobile home
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (KMSP) - A Maplewood, Minn. man is looking for answers after an SUV crashed into his home, terrifying his 85-year-old mother.
The police investigation is still open with the suspects still on the run. The homeowner is left with a hole in his home and a concern it will happen again.
“My mother’s bedroom, her hospice room is here and the SUV was stuck in there,” said John Rybak.
Rybak was enjoying a late night cup of coffee with his 85-year-old mother Saturday night when suddenly their home was hit hard.
“All of the sudden, a horrendous jolt shook the house and things started falling all over the place,” said Rybak. “And I ran over to grab the TV because it was about to tip over on my mother.”
Rybak ran outside to see the chaos and the hole that was now in the side of his home.
“Came out here to find a car embedded in the side of the house,” he said. “And I came out and the gentleman got out and the gentleman said he was going to call 911. Little did I know, he was just saying that and he ran that way and the female ran that way.”
Still inside, Rybak’s mother was terrified.
“It rippled the whole floor and cracked the walls in there and it shifted the house three or four inches off its foundation,” he said.
Police told Fox 9 just before the crash, members of a fugitive apprehension team who happened to be in the area spotted the SUV hit a parked car, take off and then smash into the mobile home. It’s a crash Rybak is hoping can be prevented from ever happening again.
“I don’t think that’s much to ask for after something like this to have a speed bump or two put in and a couple of big rocks put out here,” he said.
Investigators say they also found some marijuana inside the crashed vehicle.
