St. Paul investigating city's second homicide in less than 24 hours

Less than 24 hours after a shooting claimed the life of a man in St. Paul's Frogtown neighborhood, just over 10 blocks away another life was lost to gunfire.

Off-duty officers were working near the 900 block of University Avenue when they reported hearing shots fired around 2 a.m., police said. A short time later, a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound was dropped off in a private vehicle at Regions Hospital, where he later died.

Investigators brought several possible witnesses to police headquarters for interviewing, and the Forensics Services Unit is processing the scene. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to positively identify the victim and determine his exact cause of death.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650.

This homicide occurred less than 24 hours after a man was shot near the intersection of Lafond Avenue and Dale Street.

Investigators do not believe the two cases are connected. No arrests have been made in either case.

Sunday’s death marks the 19th homicide in the city this year.
