Sonar finds missing boater's body in Lake Sylvia

A dive team has recovered the body of a man who never resurfaced after his boat capsized on Lake Sylvia in Melrose, Minn. on Sunday. According to the Stearns County sheriff’s office, 47-year-old Dale Steinmann was driving a speed boat with his girlfriend’s two boys, ages 7 and 10, when the boat flipped onto its side.

Witnesses rushed to the overturned boat and helped pull the two boys from the water. Both boys were wearing life jackets and were not injured.

The Melrose Rescue Squad and Stearns County deputies searched with boats and a dive team until dark, then resumed their search Monday morning. With the help of a sonar unit from the Crow Wing County sheriff’s office dive team, Steinemann’s body was recovered Monday morning.
