Snowmobile crashes into tree in East Bethel, man killed

A 32-year-old man was killed in a snowmobile crash on Coon Lake in East Bethel, Minnesota, authorities say.

A person walking their dog on the channel of the lake near Dogwood Road on Thursday morning came upon the scene and called 911. The Anoka County sheriff’s office says the crash appears to have happened some time ago.

The sheriff’s office believes the man was traveling across the channel at a high rate of speed and struck a tree on the shoreline. He did not appear to be wearing a helmet. Authorities have not determined whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Authorities have tentatively identified the victim as an East Bethel resident, but have not released his name.

The accident remains under investigation.

The sheriff’s office is reminding people to watch their speed while snowmobiling, snowmobile with a partner or let someone know where you are going and always wear a helmet.
