Search for missing 10-year-old boy continues

It has now been four days since 10-year-old Barway Edwin Collins has gone missing. He was last seen at Cedarwood Apartments in Crystal. Surveillance video caught the 4th grader walking away from his apartment parking lot after a school bus driver dropped him off Wednesday afternoon. Crystal police believe Barway is with someone he knows, but those who know the little boy don't think it's a possibility that he's with someone he knows and won't stop searching until he his home safe.

A search is underway today for Barway. Former step-mother of Barway, Jennifer Beaver has been flagging down every car she sees near the corner of 55th Avenue N. and Douglas Drive N. hoping someone has a clue to where he is. "He's still my son in my heart." Jennifer said. "Somebody has him, somebody we don't know, some body he doesn't know." Jennifer spoke to Barway just a couple weeks ago, "he just said he loved me and he missed me and that's pretty much it."

Barway is described as a very happy, well-mannered child. He's even left a lasting impression on the Cedarwood Apartments caretaker. "Every morning he'd hang with me in the community room. He'd ask if he could help clean or vacuum. Of course you can't let him so I miss him a lot I want him back home." Roxy, the apartment caretaker said.

People that haven't ever met Barway, but just want him home and safe with his family searched for the missing 4th grader today. "I've looked for my own kid before and she's home and still alive and kicking, and that's what I want for Barway and his family." Stayci Bell said.

Those close to Barway, can't help but wonder why police didn't start visibly searching before Friday. Barway was reported missing at 5p.m. Wednesday. "It's unacceptable I think if this was in a better, higher class community then I think there would've been a little more push to get him home. If a parent is saying that their son is missing, than a parent knows when their kid is missing." Corry Whittaker said.

A member of the Hennepin County Sheriff's advisory board is organizing another search for Barway, expected to happen on Monday.

Barway is described as 5 feet tall, 80 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, white t-shirt, black pants, red shoes and was carrying a red backpack.

If you think you have seen Barway or have any information regarding his whereabouts, please contact the Crystal Police Department via Hennepin County Dispatch at 952-258-5321 or dial 911.
