Ryder Cup launches with celebrity match at Hazeltine

The 41st Ryder Cup kicked off with the celebrity match on Tuesday at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska.

About 50,000 people flocked to the course to watch 24 men practice golf, including Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Zach Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Ryan Cavanaugh and more. One could even spot celebrities Bill Murray, Huey Lewis and comedian Rob Riggle.

“Well, one, it’s an honor, but, two, it’s nerve-wracking,” Riggle said. “Look around, there are 20,000 people here, and I’m not a professional golfer.”

Visitors even included teenage girls, many of whom were excited to see Niall Horan, former member of the band One Direction.
