Ramsey Co. deputy pleads guilty to animal cruelty for assault of K-9 partner

A Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy has pled guilty to animal cruelty after he was caught on camera abusing his former K-9 partner.

BACKGROUND – Ramsey County K-9 handler charged with animal cruelty

Security video from the Black Bear Casino on June 15 shows Brett Berry, a Ramsey County K-9 handler, hitting a public safety dog and throwing it to the ground. Berry was at the Carlton, Minn. casino with numerous other K-9 handlers for training and certification. 

Berry was charged with two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty for the incident. He was also charged with assaulting a public safety dog, but that charge was dismissed as part of his plea deal.
