Ramp, road closures return along I-494 & Highway 62

With construction season in full swing, the word “detour” is going to become a commuter’s best friend – and greatest enemy.

Several ramp closures off Highway 62 in Eden Prairie, Edina and Minneapolis mark the latest part of the project.

“The road is getting older, and we need to get in there and smooth it out a little bit and fix the ramps. Hopefully by the time fall is done, we will have everything nice and smooth,” said Dave Aeikens with the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

By September, MnDOT will be closing parts of the highway to resurface the road.

Commuters should also note Interstate 35W will be closed from Highway 62 all the way to I-694 this weekend and next.

“There’s ways to get into downtown. You’re just going to have to think about it and plan ahead,” Aeikens said.

UPCOMING CLOSURES:

Starting Monday morning, the ramp from Tracy Avenue to Highway 62 East closed. It will reopen on Aug. 1. The detour is westbound Highway 62 to Gleason Road.

The ramp from Highway 62 East to Highway 169 North also closed Monday and is set to reopen Aug. 3. The detour is eastbound Highway 62 to Highway 100 to westbound Highway 62.

Additionally, the ramp from Gleason Road to Highway 62 West will be closed from July 25-31. The detour is Highway 62 east to Tracy Ave. Hwy 62 west.

During that time, the ramp from Hwy 169 South to Highway 62 East will also be closed.
The detour is Highway 169 South to I-494 East to Hwy 100 North.

Meanwhile, the work on the East Bush Lake Road/I-494 Interchange - West Bound Ramp continues. During the week of July 23, the contractor will begin decking the bridge. Work will continue on the retaining wall on the north side of the Interstate. They will also be replacing the expansion joint on the existing East Bush Lake Road Bridge over I-494. Once this is complete, the contractor will begin replacement of center median island on East Bush Lake Road.
