Racist note written on University of St. Thomas student's door Friday

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - University of St. Thomas leaders are condemning a racist note written on a student’s door in one of the school’s residence halls Friday. 

The incident took place at Brady Hall, one of the all-male residence halls on campus. The university is calling it a “bias-motivated incident.” 

This is not the first time an incident like this has occurred, President Dr. Julie Sullivan and Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Richard Plumb said in a statement.

Kevyn Perkins told Fox 9 he found the words, “N-word go back,” written in red marker on his dorm room door. He says it's the second time he has been the target of racist taunts.

"I was scared and mad because it’s on the third floor of Brady Hall and it’s on my door, they obviously know where I am," said Perkins. "I didn’t feel safe at the time so I just wanted to get out of there."

School leaders reiterated that racism is not be tolerated at UST. 

“On Friday, our community of color was targeted, but all of us lose when any member of our community is made to feel isolated, unsafe and unwelcome,” Sullivan and Plumb said in a statement. “As a university, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for everyone. We call on every member of our community to denounce this act of hate and work together to ensure it does not happen again.”
