Prince tribute concert planned for this summer at Northrop Auditorium

Sources tell Fox 9 the University of Minnesota is planning a Prince tribute concert sometime this summer.  But while TCF Bank Stadium has hosted shows for headliners like U2, Beyonce and the Rolling Stones, the Prince tribute would most likely be at the much smaller Northrop Auditorium.

At Friday's Board of Regents meeting, the university voted in favor of awarding Prince an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the College of Liberal Arts. President Eric Kaler said there will be a "very significant upcoming event" to present Prince with his honorary degree, adding that it will be "quite stellar."

Concert promoters Live Nation and AEG Live have reportedly been planning Prince tribute shows of their own. According to a June 2 Wall Street Journal report, Live Nation has been planning for show in Minneapolis, but could move it to a larger venue in another U.S. city. AEG Live is reportedly producing two tribute shows in London this summer.
