U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan was not present for the official swearing in of the new Congress on Tuesday, as his youngest daughter has been recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.
Rep. Nolan posted the following message on his Facebook page:
"Friends - I want to share some difficult news with you. My youngest daughter Katherine has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. The good news is that she is remarkably strong and determined to win this fight, and of course our entire family will support her every step of the way. I will be working from Minnesota for a couple days while we meet with her doctors and formulate a plan of action. I will not be present for the official swearing in of the new Congress tomorrow, but have been assured by the Speaker's Office that I can be sworn in when I return. Thank you for all your good wishes and support."
The Fox 9 family extends our thoughts and support to Rep. Nolan, Katherine and their extended family and friends.
