Man dead in S. Minneapolis street, homicide investigation underway

Minneapolis police are investigating a homicide Thursday morning after a man was found lying in the street in the Phillips West Neighborhood of south Minneapolis.

Police responded to 24th Street E. and Oakland Avenue around 8:18 a.m. on report of a gunshot and found the man dead in the road. They have reason to believe the suspect and victim knew each other and are following up on active leads.

The Hennepin County medical examiner's office will release the victim's identity as well as the cause of death.
