Police: 50-year-old woman charged for firing gun inside Inver Grove Heights home, causing panic

Police shut down streets near the 6900 block of Claude Avenue in Inver Grove Heights, Minn. around 3 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a distraught woman firing a gun inside her house.

No one was injured during the incident, although as a precautionary measure police evacuated some residents from their homes and put Hilltop Elementary School on lockdown.

The Inver Grove Heights Police Department identified the woman as 50-year-old Kathryn Mielke. She exited the residence voluntarily and was taken into custody at 5:20 p.m.

Mielke was taken to the local hospital for evaluation and was released on Friday. She is being charged with assault in the second degree.

Inver Grove Heights police believe it was an isolated incident and the community is safe.
