Woman sent home early hit, killed in snowy Minneapolis intersection

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing Hennepin Avenue at 8th Street around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in downtown Minneapolis, police confirmed.

Preliminary information suggests the woman was walking in the intersection when a driver attempted to stop but couldn't due to snow conditions. Chris David identified his mother to Fox 9 as 56-year-old Rachel David. He said she was told to go home early from work due to the snow.

According to police, the driver stopped and has been cooperating with officers.

In the last 10 years, there have been 81 pedestrians on foot hit by cars along Hennepin Avenue between 10th Street S. and 2nd Street N. in Minneapolis.
