Peaceful protest for Philando Castile planned near State Fair on Saturday

Community members will hold a peaceful protest near the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Saturday at the site of the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Philando Castile by a St. Anthony police officer in early July. The demonstration will take place on the same day the Castile family plans to lay Philando to rest in St. Louis.

Community members will gather at the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue and Fry Street in Falcon Heights, Minn. at 11 a.m. to grieve the loss of Philando Castile, Jamar Clark and others killed by police in over the last several years, according to a statement.

The protest is being organized by the Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar and several other organizations. According to organizers, the message of the protest is, “MN State #AintFair for those murdered by the police.”

"We want justice for all stolen lives,” organizers said in a statement. “We want justice for Philando Castile and Jamar Clark, whose names made international news, as well as those who stories were never told. Their lives matter.”
