Outdoor activities in jeopardy due to extreme temperatures and heat index

Minneapolis Aquatennial activities are still scheduled. The Torchlight 5K is scheduled for 7:30 p.m tonight. and the parade starts at 8:30 p.m.

Canterbury Park officials canceled Thursday’s live races because of extreme temperatures. It's only the second time in history they've had to cancel in 24 hours in advance because of weather.

“Forecasts call for a dangerously high heat index of more than 110 degrees. After consulting with Chief State Veterinarian Dr. Lynn Hovda, we have determined it is best to be proactive and cancel tomorrow’s races,” Canterbury Park President Randy Sampson said. “The health and safety of both our equine and human athletes is always our primary concern. We also do not want to inconvenience our guests and race fans with a last minute decision.” Racing will start back up on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Salvation Army has opened up their cooling stations and they’re giving away some free meals.
