Even though more snow is falling on this first day of March, at least we have left February in our rear view mirror. We had at least a trace of snow on 18 of our 28 days during the month. So not only was it snowy, but it was consistently snowy. It was also the first time we have ever had more than 5 inches of snow on four separate calendar days of a month. We finished the brutal month with 39 inches of snow, literally, a meter sticks worth. It was the 4th snowiest on record and more than a foot above the previous February record. That’s also more snow than we have seen in 63 ENTIRE SEASONS… with the most recent being 2015-2016.
Snow aside, temperatures were cold, but really not that bad all things considered. While yes, we were below average, it was only the 34th coldest. In fact, recent years of 2014 and 2015 were far colder than this year. The Bright side is that now that we have switched months, it is the beginning of our biggest warm up period of the spring. From March 1st to March 31st, the metro averages a 17° increase in overall temperatures. That puts average highs near 50 and average lows near freezing by the end of the month… so relief is coming.
