Man involved in police standoff outside Afton, Minn. identified, charged Friday

The man who engaged officers in an hours-long standoff Thursday evening west of Afton, Minnesota was charged Friday in Washington County District Court.

The man was identified as Berkley Read Lewis V, 31, of White Bear Township.

He was charged with one felony count of possession of a dangerous weapon, one felony count of assault with a dangerous weapon and one gross misdemeanor of domestic assault.

Thursday evening, around 4 p.m., Washington County deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 14000 block of 70th Street South. Upon arrival, deputies assisted individuals out of a residence. During the evacuation, a deputy reported a firearm had been discharged. 

After the incident, officials sent an alert to all residents between 50th St. South to 80th St. South and between Neal Avenue South to O’Dell Avenue South to remain in their homes and to lock their doors.
