Oakdale police officer shot, suspect dead in marijuana raid

An Oakdale police officer is recovering from a gunshot wound sustained during the execution of a search warrant Thursday morning. Sources close to the investigation told Fox 9 the raid of the home on the 2700 block of Granite Avenue was connected to a marijuana growing operation.

St. Paul police are investigating and confirmed the suspect involved in the incident was taken to Regions Hospital and pronounced dead.

According to St. Paul police, Oakdale officers and agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension encountered an armed man when they entered the home just before 8 a.m. Thursday. Shots were fired, the Oakdale officer was struck in the arm and the suspect was eventually pronounced dead at the hospital.

Because of the BCA’s role in the incident, the St. Paul Police Department was asked to lead the investigation. The Ramsey County medical examiner will identify the deceased suspect and determine an exact cause of death.

The officer, who has not been identified, was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment.
