Number of bike commuters in Minneapolis hits all-time high

More people are biking to work in Minneapolis than ever before, according to a new survey from the U.S. Census Bureau released Thursday.

The latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey shows five percent of Minneapolis residents biked to work in 2015 – up from 4.6 percent in 2014. This is the highest percentage the survey has recorded for Minneapolis bike commutes to date, the City of Minneapolis said in a statement on Thursday.

Minneapolis also has the second highest per capita bicycle commuting of all cities, according to the City of Minneapolis.

The survey also found that 7.5 percent of Minneapolis residents walked to and from work – the second highest percentage on record I the past few decades.

The City of Minneapolis says their goal is to have 15 percent of commuters biking to work by 2025.
