Portions of Interstate 35 in the north metro will see lane closures from early April through August, just one part of a larger Minnesota Department of Transportation project to resurface more than six miles of roadway.

The work will start just north of Highway 8 and proceed south past the I-35 split near Forest Lake, Minn., replacing three bridges along the way.

According to MNDoT, the work is set to begin Wednesday morning, shutting down lanes of I-35 between Highway 97 and Highway 8 for most of the summer and closing the ramp to Hwy 8 during the month of May. More work will be done between Highway 97 and the interstate split next summer, including construction on a new I-35W bridge over I-35E.

MNDoT officials also hope to increase road safety by installing a diamond interchange to replace the Highway 97 bridge over I-35 and updating crosswalks in the area.
