New Ulm Police Chief Myron Wieland is expected to appear in Faribault County court Friday on 3 misdemeanor charges related to an alleged assault at his home.

The Watonwan County attorney’s office is prosecuting the case to avoid a conflict of interest. Wieland, 54, is accused of assaulting a person at his home Monday night. The victim has not been identified.

Wieland has been the New Ulm police chief for 6 years and is a 28-year veteran of the department.
