New performers added to Prince Tribute concert, John Mayer no longer in line-up

A plethora of well-known artists will gather to perform at the Official Prince Tribute concert set for Oct. 13 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Newly announced artists include X Factor judge and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, Prince’s ex-wife, dancer Mayte Garcia along with Maya and Nandy McClean, Portuguese Fado singer Ana Moura, and many generations of the New Power Generation including the world class singers and musicians Marva King, Shelby J, Elisa Fiorello Dease and Kip Blackshire.

Also added to the list is saxophonist Michael Phillips, Prince's childhood best friend and former bandmate, Andre Cymone and DJ Dudley, the touring DJ for Prince and The New Power Generation.

Previously announced acts include Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera, Chaka Khan, Tori Kelly, Anita Baker, Doug E. Fresh, Luke James, Bilal, Mint Condition along with Prince's inner circle, Morris Day & The Time, Judith Hill and Liv Warfield.  Artists are subject to change. According to an updated press release, John Mayer is no longer listed in the lineup.

The New Power Generation, led by Morris Hayes, along with and members of 3RDEYEGIRL, will perform all songs.  

Prince fans are encouraged to gather at Xcel Energy Center at 4 p.m. to celebrate the life and music of Prince at a free, outdoor preshow party on Kellogg Blvd. between Gates 1 and 2. Festivities will include a DJ, area radio stations and food and beverage options.

Additionally, Mayor Chris Coleman “will declare Thursday as ‘Prince Day’ and will encourage everyone to wear purple to remember the musician and artist who inspired millions through his music,” according to the Xcel Energy Center website.

Xcel Energy Center will unveil a permanent tribute to Prince at Gate 1 of the arena featuring a replica Minnesota Wild jersey with Prince's glyph that was presented to the artist in 2004.
