New Carver County trail nearly completed

Crews are putting the finishing touches on a new trail in Carver County in time for the holiday weekend.

The Mayor of Carver says he hopes the newly enhanced trail will bring people to the heart of his community.

People are already putting it to good use.

"Now that it's paved, it's a lot easier for us to ride and ride farther, which is nice for us because we can start here and we can go to Chaska and back easily," said Darrin Rains, a cyclist.

Crews completed the roughly two-mile section of trail between Carver and Chaska about 10 days ago. It is part of a longer network of trails along the Minnesota River.

Officials say the $1.1 million cost was mostly paid from state and federal funds.

Kim Dressen, a trail user, says she think it's worth the money.

“There's nothing better to have a trail like this in the community, and for everybody to use it and all kinds of people from all over to be able to use it too,” said Dressen.

The trail itself is mostly finished.

There's still some work to be done in Depot Park and in the parking lot. There are also plans for more signage along the route.
