GLENCOE, Minn. (KMSP) - After running a pizza shop for 19 years, a Glencoe, Minn. man decided the only way to spend Christmas was to open up his all-you-can-eat buffet to the whole town.
On Christmas morning, the line outside of Unhinged Pizza nearly unhinged the door. Owner Jason Zehnder, along with his off the clock kitchen staff and a host of volunteers, served up more than 300 pizzas and countless trays of chicken to nearly 800 guests.
“I'm happy to give up six to seven hours of my Christmas if I could just make one person's day better, and just make their day, if they had no one to be with, or nowhere to be or no money to be there we want to help,” Zehnder said.
Although the guests arrived for a free all-you-can-eat buffet, not everyone came empty handed. Many of the guests brought at-will donations, 100 percent of which will go to the McLeod County food shelf.
“We decided it would be kind of fun because a few of us don't have a place to go for dinner, we could find places but it's just so much fun to spend it with Jason [at Unhinged Pizza] because he's such a nice person,” Marlys Palmer, a guest, said.
In total, Zehnder and his staff raised nearly 2,800 for the McLeod County food shelf.
