Dog escapes kennel at night to comfort foster puppies

- In an adorable and innate display of affection, a concerned mother dog exited her own kennel to comfort two crying foster puppies at Barker’s Pet Motel and Grooming in St. Albert, Alberta. The pet mote’s surveillance cameras captured Maggie’s tour of the kennel on the night on Jan. 29.

Eventually, Barker’s owner Sandy Aldred arrives, and Maggie excitedly begs her to open the cage door. According to a post on the motel’s Facebook page, Maggie had been adopted from the Humane Society of Canada and had her own puppies taken away just two weeks earlier.

“[She] must have heard the babies crying and let herself out of her kennel to lay next to their room,” the post reads. “We put them together for a while and all 3 of them were so happy!”

“It’s innate in a lot of female dogs, especially if they’ve had a litter in the past," said Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society member Deanna Thompson in an interview with ABC News. "It’s just in their nature… When they hear other puppies crying they want to console them and make sure they’re feeling safe.”
