Minnesota man who founded Feed My Starving Children passes away

Richard Proudfit, the Minnesota man who founded the nonprofit Feed My Starving Children, died Tuesday at the age of 88.

Proudfit founded Feed My Starving Children in 1987 after returning from a mission trip to Honduras, where he witnessed widespread starvation. He worked with nutritionists from General Mills, Cargill and other companies to develop a food formula that provides all the nutritional requirements for malnourished children.

Based in Coon Rapids, Feed My Starving Children sends volunteer-packed meals to orphanages, schools, clinics and feeding programs in 70 counties worldwide. Last year, volunteers packed more than 333 million meals to feed more than 912,000 kids daily for a year.
