Tim Walz narrowly wins re-election in Minnesota's 1st District

Rep. Tim Walz was re-elected to a sixth term in Minnesota’s 1st congressional district, which covers southern Minnesota from the South Dakota border to the Wisconsin border. The district includes the cities of Rochester, Mankato, Winona, Austin, Owatonna and Albert Lea. Walz is only the third Democrat since 1893 to represent the district.

Walz defeated a challenge by Republican Jim Hagedorn, a former official; within the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Walz defeated Hagedorn by a 54-46 split in 2014.
